I heard a lot of great things about Duck Donuts since it opened up in Orlando, and I finally got around to trying it. I chose a total of 3 donuts, and to be honest they all tasted exactly the same. At Duck Donuts, you can either make your own by choosing the coating, topping, and drizzle, or choose an already made combination. Every single donut has a vanilla cake base and is fresh. That being said, they all taste like a fluffy pancake. There’s nothing wrong with a fluffy cake donut, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to try this again.
The first donut I tried was my favorite. I chose my own adventure and picked a peanut butter coating, with peanuts as the topping, and a raspberry drizzle. Basically, peanut butter and jelly. The donut was warm and all the components tasted good. At this point, I agreed with the hype.
Next, I had the seasonal Key Lime Pie donut. It was the vanilla cake donut with key lime coasting and graham cracker crumbs. It tasted like Key Lime, but it was during this experience that I realized the cake donut tasted like a pancake. I think if I ever find myself at Duck Donuts again, I’d try a breakfast sandwich or maple coating because it would go perfectly.
Finally, I shared the S’mores Donut with my friend. It had a chocolate coating, with graham cracker crumbs, and a marshmallow drizzle. Eating this donut made me come to the conclusion that they all taste the same. It doesn’t really matter which flavor of anything you choose. The base is the flavor at the forefront, so if you love that cake donut this will be your favorite place. I liked it, but I didn’t need 3 of them. I rather get a fresh donut from Krispy Kreme, but your mileage may vary.
